The Tapboard

The Tapboard is an alternate layout keyboard plugin for the Qtopia environment. It has a key layout optimized for input with a stylus. It's based on the layout IBM developed for its ATOMIK software for the PalmOS, but enhanced to meet the needs of Linux & the Zaurus. Unlike the stock soft keyboard, control keys work correctly; for example, Ctrl-C will copy text in the text editor and stop a process in the terminal (this will let you kill a ping without taking the Zaurus out of its cradle).

The Tapboard is FREE and is available under the GPL.

Notes:

  1. On some browsers something adds a ".exe" extension to the file. If this happens just rename the file to remove the extension. The correct extension is ".ipk". The Zaurus uses this extension to recognize the file as containing installable software.
  2. The tapboard will only install into RAM, not compact flash or SD card. It requires approximately 48K of storage.
